Welcome to PreK3! We are super excited for the upcoming school year with your child and can’t wait to meet you.  Our program places a strong emphasis on teacher-directed learning as well as child-directed play/centers.  While planning learning activities, we take into account various learning styles and interests to plan well-rounded, fun and engaging, developmentally appropriate curriculum to meet the needs of each child.  We help each child grow in understanding knowledge and appreciation of their environment and to enable each child to achieve success, gain confidence and acquire the skills necessary for Pre-Kindergarten.  Our 3 main areas of focus are Personal Care, Social/Emotional Development and Knowledge and Skills to foster independence.  The first area of learning is about social/emotional wellbeing, knowing who you are, where you fit in and feeling good about yourself.  It is about developing respect for others, social competence, and identifying feelings to have a positive attitude to learning.  Next is Personal Care where all children will be given opportunities to talk and communicate in a widening range of situations, to respond to adults and to each other, express their wants/needs, increase their understanding of how their bodies work, what they need to do to be healthy and safe, to practice and extend the range of vocabulary and communication skills they use and to listen carefully. The last area is Knowledge and Skills.  There will be opportunities for all children to develop and practice skills to identify colors, shapes, phonetic sounds for letter identification, counting, sorting and also work on fine motor skills through coloring, cutting and so much more.

Mrs. Rebecca Smolenski

I’ve been teaching for 27 years and I am dual certified in both regular and special education with a Bachelor’s Degree from Kutztown University, PA and a Master’s Degree from McDaniel College in Curriculum and Instruction.

My passion is PreK3 and I have been teaching our little friends since 2014. I enjoy making children laugh, smile, feel respected, and loved! I live in Bel Air, Maryland with my husband Mark, and 13 and 11 year old sons, Hayden and Chase.

In my spare time I love going to my sons’ sporting events including baseball, basketball, and soccer games. We are big Maryland Terps, Ravens, and Orioles fans and enjoy vacationing to the beach, experience nature’s outdoors and visiting national zoos. I enjoy gardening, dancing, exercising and eating of course!
